Description

Captured this image of Messier 81 from my driveway this past Friday night. This is a nearby companion of M82, which I posted an image of a few days ago. M81 was discovered by Johann Elert Bode, in 1774 and later included in the Messier Catalog of things that are not comets. This is a grand design spiral galaxy located about 12 million lights years away. I captured 5 hours worth of daya on this object with my Celestron 8SCT and ZWO 533 MC Pro camera with the Optolong L-Pro Filter. This is one of my favorite targets and I image it and M82 at the start of each Galaxy season to measure my progress. This is by far the best image I've gotten of it so far.
